Exterior locks have a key access from the outside of the door to allow a homeowner to lock and unlock their door in a garage that may not have a side door access. These garages that do not have a side door are sometimes referred to as a vault garage. Whenever there is a vault garage (no side door access) and an electric garage door opener, it is recommended to install a Keyed disconnect, part #272. This allows entrance if the power were to go out. The key cylinder is attached to the manual disconnect of the opener. Turn the key, pull the cylinder and pull the disconnect.
