Tips & Information on Ordering Extension Springs
To weigh your door:
- Raise the garage door to the fully open position. Be sure to disconnect your automatic garage door opener, if you have one.
- Use C-clamps or vice grips under bottom rollers to keep the door in the open position. With tension completely off extension springs, disconnect springs from track support.
- Place a bathroom scale under center of door.
- Remove C-clamps or vice grips and lower door by hand. Lower door slowly by hand onto the scale. This may require more than one person, doors are very heavy and may crash down if you cannot hold it.
- Record the weight of the door.
- If door weight exceeds capacity of the scale, use 2 bathroom scales and use a 2x4 with one end on one scale and the other on a second scale with the door perpendicular to the 2 x 4. Be sure to take into account how much the scale reads with the 2x4 on it and deduct from weight you end up with. Add the weight reading from both scales together to get the total weight of the garage door.
WARNING - Garage door springs, cables, brackets, and other hardware attached to the springs are under very high tension and, if handled improperly, can cause serious injury. Only a qualified professional or a mechanically experienced person should adjust them, but only by carefully following the manufacturer's instructions.

Couldn't ask for more! Will use again!I ordered a pair of 210 lb Extension Springs online (try finding those at your local home improvement store - NOT) and they came on time, at a great price, and went in without a problem. Also called and talked to them with a few questions and they were very helpful. Couldn't ask for more! I will definitely use these folks again when my door springs break again in 6.3 years (10,000 cycles lifetime @ 5 open/close cycles per day).

Works well on 8 ft door!I have them on a 8 foot door. They stretch out to 71 inches with the door closed seem to work just fine. I do have a safety cable passing through the springs.

ExcellentReceived these about 3 days after they were ordered. Price was slightly better than I had found other places. They were a perfect replacement for the broken spring on my door. It took longer to remove the old broken spring that to install these new ones.

DIY ProjectSearched online after visiting both big box home improvements stores and finding their selections lacking. Found this site and was quite pleased. Good selection coupled with an easy to use site to find type of spring that I required. Had a question about whether the open ended extension springs were open on both ends because some aren't and as picture doesn't show both ends. Called and spoke with a friendly customer service representative who checked and assured me that they were. The shipping charge is fair as their springs were the same length and equally as heavy as my old ones. I don't usually write reviews but if these last as long as my old springs (30 years), and I don't see why not, I probably won't need to buy any more from them so a review of a quality product from a quality company is the least I can do!

Good fitSprings ordered were difficult to find because my door is made out of fibreglass and aluminum and only weighs 40 pounds. Preferred doors was one of the few vendors on ebay that offered these ultralight springs, and at a fair price. Installation was easy.
